On 4th - 5th December, IBC successfully held the 20th Asia International Coffee Conference, with the title was COFFEE OUTLOOK 2014, at Park Hyatt Saigon 2 Lam Son Square, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon, Vietnam. Mr Irfan Anwar, Chairman Association of Indonesian Coffee Exporters and Industries (AICE) and President Director of COFFINDO, was invited as panelist for discussion forum on 1st day and speaker on 2nd day.
Other invited speakers were Le Van Duc, Vice Director Department of Crop Production, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Head of Vietnam Coffee Coordination Board; Dr. Dang Kim Son, Director General Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development (IPSARD); Le Anh Tuan, Chief Executive Officer Vietnam Commodity Control & Certification Joint Stock Company (VCC&C); Santiago Vila, Technical Director Nestlé Vietnam Ltd; Luong Van Tu, Chairman Vietnam Coffee-Cocoa Association (VICOFA); Ross Bright, Master Coffee Roaster Spinelli Coffee Co; Lars Kahnert, Project Manager 4C Association; Keith Flury, Head of Coffee Research Volcafe; Christoph Ziegler, Head of Sales Business Unit Coffee Buehler AG, Switzerland; Raja Saoud, Senior Vice President – Coffee Olam; Myung Kyu Ahn, Former President Specialty Coffee Association of Korea (SCAK) and Chief Executive Officer Coffee Myungga Co; Le Duc Huy, Vice General Director Simexco Daklak; Nguyen Duc Tuan Vinh, Managing Director Nedcoffee Vietnam; Do Ngoc Sy, Sourcing Manager Coffee – Asia Pacific Mondele-z International; Eduardo Gebara, APAC Manager – Cargill Risk Management Cargill; Adrien Mahy, General Director Vinacof Ltd.
The conference was held for 2 days. 1st day of conference presented several discussion forum such as Vietnam Government Round Table, discussing about Vietnam Coffee Industry Outlook, and panel discussion of Coffee Industry Leaders Forum, focusing on “Where The Coffee Market Headed on 2015-2016?”. In this session, beside Mr Irfan Anwar, there were Keith Flury, Head Coffee Research of Volcafe; Nguyen Duc Tuan Vinh, Managing Director Nedcoffee Vietnam; Lars Kahnert, Project Manager 4C Association; Adrien Mahy, General Director of Vinacof Ltd, acting as panelists.
The panel discussion discussed some issues such as:
1. How industry adjusting the rising of coffee consumption trend?
2. How can industry achieve sustainability through quality over quantity?
3. Is coffee industry threatened by new trends of energy and sport drink?
4. Soluble, roasted, and ground - where the market headed?
The 1st day of conference closed by Coffee Cupping session which displaying Vietnamese Arabica and Robusta coffee. Other speaker presented many issues and presentations on the 2nd day. AEKI/AICE, represented by its chairman, Mr Irfan Anwar, was presenting The Update of Coffee Industry in Indonesia which consist of production forecast in 2015, the rising of local consumption, and export trend in Indonesia. After that, Mr Myung Kyu Ahn, former President of Specialty Coffee Association of Korea (SCAK) and CEO of Coffee Myungga Co, was presenting about coffee market trend in Korea. In his presentation, he conveyed the massive growing of downstream segment of coffee industry in Korea, especially in café chain, coffee shop, and Coffee University which already created Barista and Q-Grader. Session continued by question & answer forum before closing at 4.00 p.m.
After all the session, The 20th Asia International Coffee Conference was over. We all hope by joining the worldwide event and conference like this, we wish it could show and keep the existence of Indonesian coffee and increasing the value to any coffee players in the whole world.
